In her Ripley Mechanics master class, Tony award winner (Next to Normal) and Broadway veteran Alice Ripley shares the rudimentary methods, nuts and bolts exercises, and keen thought disciplines that are essential for every successful performing artist who has committed their lifetime to the arts. Ripley Mechanics is also for those who simply want to learn about what we do, those with a desire to improve their connection to community. In this class, participating students will receive a workout with their prepared music as Ms. Ripley encourages them to move their bodies, and to take on the challenge of asking and answering probing questions regarding their expression and connection to the material. True to the experience of a performing artist, Ripley Mechanics is a blend of hands-on physical exercises and an exploration in theory. Ms. Ripley will "share, move, ask and answer" with the attendees as they break through barriers which may be preventing them from a full, true expression of the song. Ripley Mechanics also includes a lively discussion of Ms. Ripley's Tedx talk Magic Takes Time, a conversation about how to take what we do as actors and apply it to our off-stage lives in order to foster better relationships and a stronger community.
